Spring Awakening bested fellow Cal-breds by 5 1/2 lengths to graduate at Del Mar July 23 and followed with a runner-up effort to Set Play in the GI Del Mar Debutante S. Sept. 3. A disappointing third in the Oct. 20 Anoakia S. over the local Cushion Track, the bay bounced back to register a two-length success in the Moccasin S. across town Nov. 11. Heavily favored against state-bred company, Spring Awakening raced handily for jockey Garrett Gomez, hounding pacesetting Lovehi to the stretch. She pressed by that one at the furlong marker and was always holding Onebadkitty in the run to the wire.
